Salt Lake tops Eastern Oklahoma State in Pool D game

The Salt Lake Community College men's soccer team picked up a 2-1 win against Eastern Oklahoma State College Sunday night in a Pool D game at the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament at Orlando Health Stadium.

The Bruins scored the game-winning goal with five minutes and 22 seconds remaining as Blake Bastian hits the corner kick past the goalkeeper to give Salt Lake Community College the lead.

"Blake is an incredibly special kid, he played her, served on an LDS mission and is back and just does everything right," Salt Lake Community College men's soccer coach Mark Davis said. "He finds himself in the starting lineup and puts in the game winner, I am just so proud of him."

Eastern Oklahoma State College opened the scoring with 16 minutes left in the first half as Ian Cowie found the back of the net.

Less than three minutes later Salt Lake would tie the game as Ty Sanchez blasts one past the keeper. Salt Lake CC pressued Eastern Oklahoma State for much of the second half but it remained tied until Bastian's goal late in the game.

"It doesn't get any easier, this team was so good tonight, I give Eastern Oklahoma State a lot of credit for how they played and I expect this exact same game against Iowa Western," Davis said.

Eastern Oklahoma State College will play No. 5 seed Iowa Western Monday at 5:30 p.m. with Salt Lake Community College playing Iowa Western Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. to wrap up pool play.
