Women's cross country team finishes 15th at NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships

The Eastern Florida State College women's cross country team placed 15th overall at the NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championships Saturday in Huntsville, Alabama.

Sophomore Rachel Starr ran her personal best at John Hunt Park, finishing strong to move up to 17th place overall with a time of 18 minutes, 34.2 seconds.

Teammate Marlie Gonzalez finished 51st overall with a time of 19:43.8 while Isabella Narvaez ran her personal best, finishing in 21:02.3. Amelia Shephard was right behind her with her season best run of 21:09.5.

Lauren Deal also finished with a personal best, finishing in 21:37.1 and Sierra Kohler had a personal best run of 22:02.8.

"We ran a 20:25 average today which was faster than any runner ran last year, but we were still 15th overall, so while we are getting better, everyone else is improving as well," Eastern Florida State College women's cross country coach Doug Butler said. "Rachel is pretty happy, ending the season strong after coming back from that stress fracture. She just missed being an All-American but she is excited."

The team will run in a half marathon at John Hunt Park on Tuesday before returning to Florida.
