Women's cross country team fares well at North Alabama Showcase

The Eastern Florida State College women's cross country team fared well among some of the best NCAA Division I and Division II teams in the country Friday at the North Alabama Showcase in Huntsville, Alabama.

The women's team placed 36th out of the 39 teams in the race, placing second among junior colleges in the race.

Rachel Starr finished with a new school record time of 21 minutes and 08.78 seconds while teammate Allison Downie ran a 21:15.74 in her first race of the season.

Julie Hannah also finished her first race of the season, finishing with a 22:17.88 while Jennifer Martin (25:00.44) and Maggie Dickinson (26:39.90) each ran better times in their second meet of the season.

Nicole Dombal (23:36.96) and Amie Demars (25:12.06) both had solid runs for the second straight week.

Alabama won the team title with Kentucky placing second and Georgia Tech was third overall. Kentucky's Perri Bockrath won the individual title, running the 5K race in 16:24.54.

Eastern Florida State College will compete in the FSU Invite in Tallahassee on Friday, October 7.
