Women's cross country team fares well in first meet
The Eastern Florida State College women's cross country team opened their inaugural season with a seventh-place finish at the EFSC Classic on the Melbourne campus Saturday morning.
The women's 5K race started the morning of racing and Embry-Riddle took the top three spots led by Ana Miller who won the race with a time of 18:43.5. Teammate Ariana Anderson was second and Embry-Riddle's Mackenzie Keller was third.
Eastern Florida State College runner Rachel Starr finished 26th overall with a time of 21:29.9.
"My time isn't what I wanted it to be but I am happy with how I finished today, it is a nice course," Starr said. "It is super cool to be a part of history here at Eastern Florida State College, today was our first meet and we will improve from here. We have a very supportive team and I am very happy to be a part of this team."
Teammate Nicole Dombal was 42nd with a time of 23:29.4 and Amie Demars was 57th overall, finishing in 25:06.9. Jennifer Martin finished in 25:37 and Maggie Dickinson finished in 27:05.
"Embry-Riddle and Florida Southern are both really good programs and they showed that," Eastern Florida State College women's cross country coach Doug Butler said. "Among junior college teams, we are going to be OK. One of our top two girls didn't run today, another had some problems with the heat so we will be better than we showed today."
Eastern Florida State College will compete in the Southern Showcase on Friday, September 16 in Huntsville, Alabama.
