Women's volleyball team falls short in five sets on the road

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball lost a tight match against Daytona State College in five sets in a Citrus Conference match Wednesday on the road.

The 16th-ranked Titans fell to No. 13 Daytona State 25-20, 21-25, 26-24, 22-25 and 16-14 at Daytona State College.

Daytona State College went on a 7-0 run to open up the first set and led 15-9 before the Titans made a run of their own to cut it to two but the Falcons held on for the 25-20 win.

The second set saw Daytona State leading early but tied things up and remained tight until a big Dominae Jordan kill made it 24-21 and the Titans went on to post the 25-21 win.

The third set was close throughout and tied 24-24 Juliana De Acharan made two nice serves to give the Titans a 26-24 win and a 2-1 advantage.

But Daytona State College would bounce back in the fourth set, forcing a fifth set with the 25-22 win.

The Titans took a 7-3 advantage in the fifth set only to see Daytona State march back into it and tie things 7-7. The two teams would trade points until Dayton went on a bit of a run to take a 14-12 advantage. Paulina Dobrinova had a big kill to keep the Titans alive, but Daytona State would pull off the win, 16-14.

Eastern Florida State College is now 13-7 overall and 6-7 in the conference. The Titans will host Santa Fe College Saturday at 2 p.m. in the team's final regular-season match. The team will honor the sophomores on Saturday and also encourage fans to wear pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
