Women's volleyball team knocks off No. 2 Miami Dade

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team knocked off No. 2 ranked Miami Dade College on Saturday afternoon at Titan Field House.

The 20th-ranked Titans snapped a 12-match losing streak by defeating Miami Dade in five sets to pick up a Citrus Conference victory. The Titans lost the first set 25-19, then won the next two sets 25-12 and 25-22 to take a 2-1 lead. Miami Dade won the fourth 25-20 to force a fifth set which the Titans won to snap the streak.

Miami Dade jumped out to a fast 4-0 lead and dominated the first set, leading 21-10 before the Titans got things going. Eastern Florida State College would go on a 7-1 run, but the rally fell short and the Sharks took the first set 25-19.

But the Titans would continue playing well in the second set and a block by Emma Kiser gave Eastern Florida State College a 16-6 lead. Sofia Kamke, Sophia Knowles each had a couple of big kills and the Titans evened things with a 25-12 win in the second set.

Dominae Jordan, Rachele Braccio and Kiser each had kills to open the third set as Eastern Florida State College took a 4-0 lead. Miami Dade would cut the lead to two, 14-12 but another kill by Kiser and a block by Braccio gave the Titans some cushion. Miami Dade went on a 5-0 run to tie the match 20-20 but Paulina Dobrinova had a big kill to give them a 21-20 lead. Up 24-22, Jordan finished the set with a kill to give the Titans a 2-1 lead.

Kamke had a big fourth set but Miami Dade tied things up with the 25-20 win, forcing a fifth set.

Sophia Knowles had a kill to give the Titans an early 5-2 lead and held it until the teams switched sides with Eastern Florida State College leading 8-5. Mimai Dade would cut the lead to 10-9 but once again Kamke had a big kill to keep the Titans in the lead. Leading 13-12 Knowles once again had a big kill and then Mariana Saba served for the match and once again it was Kamke who finished things with the kill.

Kamke finished with a season-high 22 kills and 15 digs while Jordan had 17 kills and 10 digs. Knowles finished with eight. Gaia Riedmuller finished with a season-high 29 digs and five assists while Juliana De Acharan had 41 assists and 10 digs.

Eastern Florida State College improved to 12-5 overall and are now 5-5 in the Citrus Conference. Miami Dade falls to 8-2 in the conference.

The Titans will hit the road Wednesday, traveling to Indian River State College on Wednesday for a conference match beginning at 5:30 p.m. They will be back at Titan Field House Saturday afternoon, hosting No. 1 Florida Southwestern at 2 p.m.
