Women's volleyball team sweeps Hillsborough CC

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team defeated Hillsborough Community College in straight sets Wednesday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans, who are No. 20 in the national poll, picked up the win 25-19, 25-21 and 25-18 in a Citrus Conference match broadcast live on WEFS-TV.

Eastern Florida State College got off to a slow start as Hillsborough CC took a 9-4 lead but Emma Kiser served up four straight points to tie things 9-9. The Titans took a 14-12 lead with a big point on a long rally and went on another run behind Mariana Bueno Lopes' serving, going up 21-14. They would go on to win the first set 25-19.

The second set was much closer as neither team had more than a three-point lead throughout the set until Sofia Kamke entered the match and recorded three kills and up 24-21, Sophia Knowles would bury a kill to give the Titans a 2-0 lead.

The Titans would go on a 6-0 run as Gaia Riedmuller had a couple of aces and Dominae Jordan had a big kill as EFSC led 15-8. The lead would reach 10 at 22-12 and went on to pick up the win with the 25-18 set win.

Eastern Florida State College (11-5, 4-5 in the conference) were led by Paulina Dobrinova who had nine kills and six digs. Riedmuller finished with 17 digs and five assists. Juliana De Acharan had 13 assists and four digs to go with three kills. Kamke and Knowles each finished with six kills. Seven players had at least three kills in the match.

Hillsborough Community College lost its seventh straight match, falling to 1-8 in the conference.

Eastern Florida State College will host No. 2 ranked Miami Dade College on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Titan Field House. Admission is free and the match will be shown live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
