Volleyball team loses to Hillsborough CC on the road

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost to No. 17 Hillsborough Community College in a Suncoast Conference match Saturday afternoon on the road.

The Titans, who are now 16-7 overall and 7-6 in the conference, lost 25-21, 25-16, 25-19 in the first of two meetings with Hillsborough Community College.

The two teams will meet again on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Titan Field House and the match will be shown live on WEFS-TV.

On Saturday the Titans jumped out to a fast start as the Titans took a 6-1 lead but Hillsborough CC would chip away at the lead and tied things 15-15. The Hawks would take the lead for the first time at 18-17 but a Sofia Kamke kill would tie things back up 20-20. Hillsborough CC would win five of the final six points to take the first set.

The second set saw the Hawks take an early lead and would stretch it to an 14-8 lead before the Titans would string a couple of points together. A Rachele Braccio kill would cut the lead to 14-10 but that is as close as the Titans would get as the Hawks picked up the 25-16 set win.

Hillsborough Community College kept things going in the third, jumping out to a 5-0 lead but a couple Sophia Knowles kills and a Gaia Riedmuller ace cut the lead back to one, 6-5. Hillsborough Community College would jump back out to a strong lead, 16-9. Down 24-17 in the third, the Titans refused to quit as Emma Kiser and Knowles each had kills before Hillsborough finished the match.

Tuesday night's match will begin at 6 p.m. at Titan Field House and the game will be broadcast on WEFS-TV.
