Women's volleyball team knocks off No. 16 Daytona State

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team defeated No. 16 Daytona State College Tuesday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans improved to 16-5 overall and 7-4 in the Suncoast Conference with the 25-21, 12-25, 25-23, 25-20 win. It marks the fourth straight win for the Titans who are receiving votes in the latest NJCAA Division I poll.

The first set was back and forth throughout the early going but tied 11-11, the Titans would begin to separate themselves as Rylie Patrick and Emma Kiser had back-to-back kills to make it 15-12. A Sophia Knowles block and Gaia Riedmuller ace increased the lead to 20-16 and EFSC would increase the lead to 24-18 on back-to-back kills from Sofia Kamke and Kiser. Daytona State College would battle back but the Titans wrapped up the first set 25-21.

Daytona State jumped out fast and cruised in the second set, holding a 6-0 and them 14-3 lead on their way to a second set win.

Tied 1-1 it was the Titans turn to jump out to a lead early, up 4-1 before Daytona State worked their way back to tie it 5-5. Tied 10-10 EFSC would go on a 5-0 run as Kiser had an ace during the service run. The Titans remained in the lead, 20-15 but Daytona State College responded to tie things up 21-21. Daytona State took a 23-22 lead but Flavia Romanelli had a big kill to tie it up and Kiser served an ace to win the third set 25-23.

Up 2-1, the Titans picked up where they left off as Jaremis Maldonado had an ace to give the Titans a 5-1 lead. Up 11-5, Daytona State called timeout but the Titans continued to swing away as Kamke had a couple of more kills and Fabiola Rivera added a big one to make it 16-8. The Titans continued to lead down the stretch with Kamke hitting the final kill for the Titans.

Kamke finished with 14 kills in the match while Kiser had five aces.
