Women's volleyball team tops Polk State in straight sets

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team defeated Polk State College in straight sets Thursday evening in a Suncoast Conference match at Titan Field House.

The Titans, who improved to 14-5 overall and 5-4 in the conference, picked up the win 25-19, 25-19, 25-18 to move into a tie for fourth place in the conference.

Eastern Florida State College led the first set from the start as Sofia Kamke had a kill and an ace to help the Titans take a 4-1 lead. Sophia Knowles led the early attack with four kills and a block in the first set.

The second set saw Polk State College take the lead for the first time and later held a 15-12 lead. But the Titans would storm back with kills from Knowles and Fabiola Rivera and then would tie the match on a big bloc from Knowles and Emma Kiser. From there the Titans would outscore Polk State 7-2 to go up 2-0 in the match.

Down 4-1 in the third set Rylie Patrick had a couple of kills to get the Titans back into the set and they would tie the match 5-5. Tied 15-15, Eastern Florida State College would score 10 of the final 13 points to win the third set.

The Titans have now won in straight sets eight times this season but first since Aug. 31. Eastern Florida State College will host Santa Fe College Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Titan Field House. It will be Sophomore Day for the Titans who will honor the four sophomores after the match.
