Women's volleyball team falls to Miami Dade

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost to No. 4 Miami Dade College in a Suncoast Conference match on Thursday evening.

The Titans fell to 12-5 overall and 3-4 in the conference with the 25-19, 25-22 and 25-15 loss to the Sharks.

The Titans led for much of the first half of the first set as Fabiola Rivera had a couple of aces to give them a three-point lead. A Gaia Riedmuller ace gave the Titans an 11-7 lead but Miami Dade fought back and took their first lead at 15-14. From there Miami Dade continued to lead the rest of the way, winning the first set 25-19.

The second set was much the same as the Titans took an 8-2 lead behind a Sofia Kamke ace and a couple of Sophia Knowles kills, causing Miami Dade to call timeout. The Sharks responded and the match was tied 13-13 and remained back and forth until 20-20. A couple of big points by the Sharks was the difference as they took the second set and control of the match.

Miami Dade took control early in the third set and went on to improve to 7-0 in the conference.

Eastern Florida State College will travel to Indian River State College on Saturday afternoon for a key Suncoast Conference match at 2 p.m.
