Women's volleyball team picks up conference road win

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team rallied back to defeat Santa Fe College Thursday night in Gainesville.

The Titans picked up the Suncoast Conference victory in four sets, 26-28, 25-20, 26-24 and 25-21 to improve to 12-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Eastern Florida State College had a 21-16 lead on a Juliana De Acharan kill but Santa Fe would score the next four points to tie things 21-21. From there the teams would trade points as both sides struggled with serving. Santa Fe strung together two points to take the 28-26 win.

The Saints started the second set with a 7-0 run, forcing Eastern Florida State College to call timeout. The Titans made some substitutions that seemed to spark them and Rylie Patrick had back-to-back aces that gave the Titans a 12-11 lead. The Titans would continue to extend the lead on a Fabiola Rivera ace. Up three, the Titans would extend it to five on a Delphinia Beams kill, leading 20-15.

Tied 1-1, the two teams stayed close early but a Patrick kill gave the Titans a 20-19 lead which they kept the rest of the way as Rivera had four big kills in the set and Beams had a couple of more kills and a huge block. Sophia Knowles finished off the set with a kill as the Titans would head to the fourth set with the lead.

Beams got things started early with a. couple of kills and then Paulina Dobreva finished things for the Titans with four kills in the set.

Eastern Florida State College will be back at Titan Field House Saturday afternoon, hosting No. 1-ranked and unbeaten Florida Southwestern at 3 p.m. and admission is free. The match will be shown live online at the EFSC Titans YouTube page.
