Women's volleyball team hosts St. Petersburg Wednesday in home opener

After starting the season on the road, the Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team will be home for the first time this season on Wednesday night.

The Titans are 7-2 on the season and will play St. Petersburg College at 6 p.m. on the Melbourne campus. Admission is free to matches at Titan Field House.

"We are excited to finally be home and play in front of our fans after nine matches on the road. We are off to a strong start and hopefully we have a lot of fans come out and see us play," Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball coach Melito Eleutiza said. "St. Petersburg was missing a couple of players the first time we played them so we are looking forward to the match and competing against them."

Eastern Florida State College is off to one of their best starts in the past five years and went 2-2 in the Odessa College Tournament that featured several ranked teams.

"We are doing really well, especially offensively. Our hitting percentage has improved a lot this year," Eleutiza said. "We are trying to just get better every day and get ready for the conference season which begins Sept. 6."

The Titans are tied for sixth in the latest Region 8 Coaches Poll and have two of the top five players in Region 8 in kills with Paulina Dobreva (78) and Sofia Kamke (70). Teammate Gaia Riedmuller is second in the state in digs with 98 through nine matches.

Eastern Florida State College defeated St. Petersburg in the season opener on the road in straight sets and will look for the season sweep on Wednesday evening.
