Volleyball team tops Monroe College at Daytona State Invitational

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team defeated Monroe College in four sets in the first match of the Daytona State Invitational Wednesday at Daytona State College. The Titans won the match, 30-28, 19-25, 25-20, 25-20 to improve to 4-0 on the season. The first set was tight throughout with the Titans taking a lead late but Monroe College went on a five point run to serve for the match. Delphinia Beams came up with a big block to tie things at 25-25. The teams would trade points back and forth until the Titans finally closed it out 30-28. Monroe College went on an 8-0 run in the middle of the second set to tie the match with a 25-19 win. But the Titans rebounded behind some strong play from Paulina Dobreva, Emma Kiser and Sofia Kamke who each had kills early to give Eastern Florida a 9-5 lead in the third set. The third set would get tight as Monroe College cut the Titans lead to 20-19, but a couple kills from Kiser and one from Dobreva to score the final four points to take a 2-1 lead. The fourth set was tied 16-16 but the Titans finished strong as Sophia Knowles and Kiser had kills as part of a 4-0 run. They finished the set with a Knowles block and won 25-20.

Dobreva had 20 kills while both Kiser and Kamke each had nine kills in the match and Gaia Riedmuller had 26 digs.
