Volleyball team falls short against No. 6 Miami Dade

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost to No. 6 Miami Dade College in five sets Thursday night in Miami.

The Titans won the first set 25-23, lost the second 23-25, won the third 25-19 before losing the last two, 25-14 and 15-7.

Eastern Florida State College trailed for most of the first set, but a big block tied the match 20-20 and Janleen De Jesus served well to give the Titans a 23-20 lead. Giselle Giraud wrapped up the first set with a kill for the Titans.

The second set was tight throughout with a tough call giving Miami Dade a lead at 17-16. Yuleidy Torres served three straight points to tie the match 20-20. After a Miami Dade timeout, the Sharks took a 23-21 lead and went on to tie the match 1-1.

The Titans dominated the third set as Giselle Giraud served seven straight points to give EFSC a 16-11 lead. From there, the Titans kept playing well with Desiree Cruz giving Eastern Florida State College a 2-1 lead with a kill.

But Miami Dade came roaring back in the fourth set to force a fifth set which the Sharks ultimately won 15-7.

Giraud finished with 13 kills and 11 digs, while Cruz had eight kills and six blocks. Fabiola Rivera had nine kills and 14 digs while Yuleidy Torres had 17 digs and an ace. The Titans finished the regular season 7-14.
