Women's volleyball team loses to Miami Dade

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost to No. 5 Miami Dade College in four sets Thursday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans lost the first set 25-18, then won the second set 25-14 before losing 25-15 and 25-9.

Miami Dade came out strong and had a 15-6 lead in the first set but Giselle Giraud had two straight kills to jump start the Titans attack. From there, sophomore Charlette Ayala would serve six straight points as the Titans would cut the Sharks lead to two. The Titans would cut it to one point at 17-16 but could not get the lead, falling 25-18.

The second set saw the Titans take an early 4-0 lead and Giraud served five straight points to force a Miami Dade timeout at 17-11. But the Titans would not be denied as Agatha Rodriguez had a couple of big kills late to help the Titans pick up the win, 25-14.

Miami Dade responded by leading 5-1 in the third set and were up 9-3 before the Titans made a run and cut the lead to 11-9 on a Delphinia Beams kill. But from there the Sharks went on an 8-1 run and went on to post the 25-15 win. The fourth set was tight at the beginning but once again Miami Dade went on a huge run to finish the match.

Giraud finished with 13 kills and 10 digs while Yuleidy Torres had 23 digs and Rodriguez finished with eight kills.

Eastern Florida State College (4-7, 2-6 in the conference) will host Daytona State College in a Suncoast Conference match Tuesday night at 6 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on WEFS-TV and will be streamed live on EFSC Titans YouTube page.
