Volleyball team falls in five sets on sophomore night

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost a tight five-set match to Lake Sumter State College Friday night at Titan Field House.

The first four sets went back and fourth and the Titans were leading 11-8 in the fifth set but a 4-0 run gave the Lakehawks a lead and eventually the 15-12 win.

The Titans fell behind early but Sarah Langenbach served seven straight points with Maddy Campbell recording a couple of kills to give the Titans a 9-3 advantage and they led the rest of the way winning 25-22.

The Lakehawks came right back in the second set and led for almost all of the set, recording a 25-13 win and sending it to the third set tied 1-1.

The third set saw Lake Sumter come back from a 19-15 hole to tie it at 22-22 but Campbell came up with a big block and Maria Rentas served out the match to give the Titans a 25-22 win and head to the fourth up 2-1.

Like the second set the Lakehawks would respond and force the fifth set with a 25-14 win.

After the match the seven sophomores were honored as Campbell, Renae Watson, Laura Azevedo, Trinity Carlos, Emily Mullen, Maria Rentas and Nyasia John will play one final match at Titan Field House next Thursday against the College of Central Florida.

First the Titans, who fell to 7-10 on the season, will travel to Daytona State College on Tuesday night for a Mid-Florida Conference match.
