Volleyball team opens conference season against No. 1 Polk State College

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team will open the Mid-Florida Conference schedule Tuesday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans will host No. 1-ranked Polk State College Tuesday and then Daytona State College on Thursday night. Both games will begin at 7 p.m.

Polk State College is 14-0 on the season and is led by Manuela Ibarguen who leads the region in kills with 218. Teammate Aixa Vigil is second in Region 8 in service aces per set with 0.61.

"When you play the No. 1 team in the country, you know they are well coached, German (Del Valle) is a great coach and he has been able to establish the program. it will come down to strategy and finding their weakness," Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball coach Carmelo Eleutiza said. "My biggest concern is being able to attack those weaknesses and if it is close can we close out big matches. We have to put pressure on them, when you play teams like this, you have to go for it because all of the pressure is on them."

Eastern Florida State College has won three straight and is 7-5 overall. The Titans are led by Anaeli Perea Martin who has 123 digs this season.

Then on Thursday night Daytona State College comes to Titan Field House for a 7 p.m. match. The Falcons enter the week 8-2 overall and face the College of Central Florida on Tuesday. Daytona State College is 9-1 in the past 10 against the Titans in the series.

"After a couple weeks of getting back in the groove, I think we are looking better as a group, I think the team is adjusting, We are excited for this week, hopefully we can make a difference this year and make a statement that we can compete at this level."
