Volleyball team goes 3-0 on Day 1 in Arizona

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team went 3-0 on the first day of the Beat The Heat tournament in Phoenix, Arizona.

In the season opener against host Phoenix College, the Titans dropped the first set 25-22 but bounced back in the second set as Anaeli Perea Martin served for the 26-24 win. The Titans went on to win the next two sets 25-21 and 25-22.

Maddy Campbell had 12 kills while Nyasia John had 11 and Cassandra Gregory added nine in the win. Gregory also had 22 assists in the match while Sarah Langenbach had 14 digs and Martin finished with 13.

Eastern Florida State College went on to post a straight set win against Chandler-Gilbert Community College in the second match of the day.

Keydelis Nieves finished with 10 kills and 13 digs while Langenbach also had 13 digs in the match. Gregory finished with 18 assists in the second match.

The Titans rounded out the first day of action with a straight set win against Kankakee Community College.

Gregory once again had 15 assists to go with four aces and seven kills. Nyasia John had eight kills and Madeline Browne had seven in the win.

The Titans are 3-0 and will play twice on Saturday in the Beat The Heat tournament, facing Imperial Valley College at noon and then Glendale Community College at 5 p.m. EDT.
