Women's volleyball team falls in season opener

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team lost their season opener in straight sets to Indian River State College Wednesday night at Titan Field House.

The Titans jumped out to an early lead in the first set and held it until the Pioneers tied it 23-23. From there the two teams traded points until Indian River won the set 32-30.

Sophomore Erin Arbour got the Titans off to a quick start serving three straight points, but Indian River took the lead at 6-5 and won the second set 25-21.

The Pioneers jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the third set, but this time it was the Titans who stormed back after a timeout, scoring nine of the next 12 points to tie the match 10-10 behind the serving of Carley Gregory and Maria Rentas Correa. But Indian River State College held on to win the set 25-21 and the match.

The Titans (0-1) will travel to Lake Sumter next Thursday before hosting Santa Fe College Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1 p.m.
