Titans volleyball team falls to SCF-Manatee

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team fell to State College of Florida-Manatee in four sets Tuesday night at Titan Field House.

Playing without four starters, the Titans came out swinging and took the first set 25-22 as Rachael Gunn had eight straight service points to help the Titans jump out to a big lead. SCF-Manatee battled back but Jenna Barnak ended the first set with a big kill.

Gunn's kill in the second set cut the lead to 12-13 but SCF-Manatee scored 13 of the next 19 points to tie things up 25-18.

SCF-Manatee jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the third set but once again the Titans fought back, cutting it to 15-17 on a Barnak block but could get no closer, falling 25-19.

SCF-Manatee used a nine-straight point rally to pull away and take the final set 25-17.

The Titans, who fell to 12-8 on the season, were led by Malvis Ortiz who finished with 19 kills while Gunn and Lorrayne da Silva each had seven.

Eastern Florida State College will be back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Indian River for a 5:30 p.m. Southern Conference matchup.
