Titans volleyball team falls to College of Central Florida

The Eastern Florida State College volleyball team hung with No. 10 College of Central Florida most of the night, but couldn't find the right combination Thursday night.

The Titans fell to 7-3 on the season with the 25-21, 25-21, 25-16 loss.

The first set was all College of Central Florida early as they took a 16-9 lead but the Titans fought back, cutting the lead to three before the Patriots scored the winner.

The momentum stayed with the Titans early in the second set as they jumped out to an 9-2 lead behind freshman Rachael Gunn, who had three of her six kills on the evening.

But the College of Central Florida got on a roll, scoring eight straight points to tie the match 11-11. From there things remained close until the end. The Patriots kept the momentum for much of the third set, holding off the Titans to claim the straight set win.

Delaney Smith led the team with eight kills while Kylie Hurst finished with five.

The Titans will travel to Gainesville for the Santa Fe tri-match on Saturday where they will play Hillsborough and host Santa Fe. The next home game will be Thursday night when they host Indian River State College in a conference matchup.
