Titans volleyball hosts doubleheader Saturday

The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team is off to its best start under head coach Andrea Rasmussen heading into a showdown with Polk State who is No. 6 in the NJCAA Division I poll Saturday morning.

The Titans are 5-1 and the only loss came to Polk State in the first match of the season. Since then the team has won all four matches in straight sets, setting up the rematch.

"We are really excited about the opportunity for a rematch with Polk. They are a great team and we are excited to see where we stand," Eastern Florida State College volleyball coach Andrea Rasmussen said. "The team has been working really hard in practice and we are doing everything we can to prepare."

Polk State comes into the match 4-1 on the season, is the top ranked team in the region and has won two straight since falling in five sets to Daytona State.

The Polk State contest is just the start to the Titans day as they will host South Florida State, who comes into the match 1-1 at 2 p.m.

The trio of Malvis Ortiz, Delaney Smith and Rachael Gunn have propelled the Titans early this season as all three have at least 40 kills after six matches.

"South Florida will give us a test as well and we are hopeful we can win two tough matches," Rasmussen said.
