Volleyball team opens with loss to No. 6 Polk State

WINTER HAVEN - The Eastern Florida State College women's volleyball team opened the new season with a close loss to No. 6 Polk State College on Tuesday night.

The Titans lost the first two sets 23-25, 14-25 but fought back and led most of the third set before falling 25-27 against one of the top teams in the state.

Rachael Gunn and Jenna Barnak each had six kills while Delaney Smith finished with five kills and three aces.

Eastern Florida will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. for the Spartanburg Invitational this weekend. The team will play four matches beginning with host Spartanburg Methodist Friday at noon.

The Titans will be home for the first time this season on Tuesday, hosting St. John's River State College at 6 p.m.
