Women's tennis team set to open national tournament Saturday in Texas

Women's tennis team set to open national tournament Saturday in Texas

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team will open the NJCAA Division I National Tournament with four matches Saturday at Tyler Junior College.

Elena Martinez Prado will take the court at 8 a.m. as the No. 6 seed at No. 1 singles. Martinez Prado will play Mississippi Gulf Coast's Angela Moreno in the first round.

Emma Sanchez will also play on Saturday as the No. 5 seed at No. 2 singles. Sanchez will play Copiah-Lincoln Community College's Cami Mordiz at 9:15 a.m.

Sara Ladino will open at 10:30 a.m. Saturday against Northwest Mississippi Community College's Allie Rawles at No. 5 singles.

Lucia Lucas is the No. 5 seed at No. 3 singles and has a bye in the first round and will open on Sunday morning against the winner of Jacksonville College's Ozi-Oiza Yakubu and Meridian Community College's Cheludo Monnayoo.

Maria Gento is the No. 4 seed at No. 4 singles and will play Sunday against the winner of Saturday's match against USC Sumter's Mary Catherine Cameron and Lewis & Clark Community College's Morgan Keefe.

Thais Mitlmeier is the No. 5 seed at No. 6 singles and has a bye. Mitlmeier will play the winner of Meridian Community College's Lilly Hollingsworth and Coastal Alabama Community College's Abigail Carlson Sunday.

The No. 1 doubles team of Lucas and Sanchez will take the court on Saturday afternoon as the No. 7 seed and will play Jacksonville College's Camilla Angioni and Nana Kusumoto at 1 p.m.

Gento and Mitlmeier have a bye as the No. 5 seed at No. 2 doubles and will play the winner of Collin College's Alyssa Glasgow and Jinsol Yang and Sauk Valley Community College's Madison Hubbs and Joy Zigler on Sunday.

The No. 3 doubles team of Ladino and Martinez Prado are the No. 2 seed in the tournament and will play Mesa Community College duo of Kirsten Nielson and Taylor Wasson who plays Coastal Alabama Community College's Lena Spears and Hannah Vosteen on Sunday.

The Titans are making their second straight appearance in the national tournament.
