Women's tennis team competes at ITA Regional Championships

Women's tennis team competes at ITA Regional Championships

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team will compete this weekend in the ITA JUCO Women's Florida Regional Championships at Hillsborough Community College in Tampa.

The Regional Championship winners will advance to the ITA Cup in October.

Sophomore Emma Sanchez is the No. 3 seed in the tournament and has a bye in the first round. She will play in the round of 16 against the winner of Alessia Ciampi and Sanne Schoorman of St. Petersburg College.

Laura Yans will play No. 1 seed Isabela Alvarez Mercante Friday at 9 a.m. while Elena Martinez Prado will play Hillsborough Community College's Aya Matsunaga and Lucia Lucas plays Hillsborough Community College's Adeola Greatorex. Sara Landino will open the tournament against No. 2 seed Catherine Goldman from Hillsborough Community College in a 9 a.m. match.

Maria Gento will open against Hillsborough Community College's Antera Hernandez at 8:45 a.m. in a round of 32 match.

In doubles, Yans and Lucas are the No. 3 seed against Hillsborough Community College's Paula Cabrer Pericas and Rocio Martinez Azcarraga.

Ladino will team with Sanchez against Hillsborough Community College's Adeola Greatorex and Aya Matsunaga in the round of 16.

Martinez Prado and Gento will play in a quarterfinals match against No. 1 seed Yoana Dudova and Catherine Goldman of Hillsborough Community College on Friday afternoon.
