Two EFSC women's tennis players open national tourney with wins

A pair of Eastern Florida State College women's tennis players picked up wins in the first round of the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Tyler, Texas Saturday.

Freshman Lucia Lucas Martinez opened the tournament with a 6-1, 6-2 win against Iowa Central CC's Lubelihle Moyo in No. 4 singles. Martinez will face Barton CC's Azul Barrios in the second round on Sunday morning.

Sophomore Helena Jokanovic picked up a straight set win against Mesa Community College's Avounay Rossi at No. 5 singles, winning 6-0, 6-0. Jokanovic will play Lewis & Clark's Aubrey Hunter Sunday morning.

Luisa Renovales had a bye in the first round and will play Central Alabama's Jefflyn Deloach Sunday morning at No. 6 singles.

The doubles team of Martinez and Paige Noble Lucas won their first match at No. 3 doubles 6-0, 6-2. They will play East Central Community College's Ivey Bruntlett and Katelyn Wall on Sunday afternoon in the second round.

Emma Sanchez, Simona Karlsson Hantzis and Gloria Barcaro will play Sunday afternoon in the consolation brackets.
