Women's tennis team edges Atlantis University Saturday

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team edged Atlantis University Saturday morning at Titan Tennis Center.

The Titans improved to 2-0 on the season with the 4-3 victory.

The No. 1 doubles team of Simona Karlsson and Helena Jokanovic picked up the easy 6-1 win, but Atlantis University won the other two doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead.

The Titans came back in the singles matches as Karlsson won the first set and then came back from behind early in the second set to post the 6-4 win. Teammate Lucia Lucas Martinez won the first set in a tiebreaker, then lost the second set 3-6 before winning the match with a 6-0 third set.

Jokanovic and Luisa Renovales also picked up wins for the Titans.

The women's tennis team will open the conference season on Thursday, hosting Hillsborough Community College at Titan Tennis Center. The match will begin at noon and admission is free. The team will also play Warner University at 2 p.m. Friday.
