Women's tennis team picks up win on Sunday

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team picked up a 6-1 non-conference match against South Indiana Sunday morning at Titan Tennis Center.

The Titans played three doubles matches and seven singles matches but scored just seven of the matches on Sunday.

The top two doubles teams posted 6-1 wins while the No. 2 team of Paige Noble and Luisa Renovales Salazar rallied late to post a 7-5 win. Tied 5-5 the duo won the final two points to pick up the win.

The top three singles players won in straight sets as Kanna Kobayakawa won the No. 1 singles match 6-1, 6-4, Kayla Greco won the No. 2 singles match 6-3, 6-2 and Simona Karlsson cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles.

The match of the day was at No. 4 singles where Helena Jokanovic won the first set 6-4, dropped the second set after rallying late to force a tiebreaker. In the tiebreaker, Jokanovic jumped out to a fast start and won 10-5.

Renovales Salazar also picked up a straight set win at No 5 singles.

The Titans will travel to Embry-Riddle on Tuesday for a match before hosting St. Petersburg College in a Region VIII match Thursday at 2 p.m. at Titan Tennis Center.
