Women's tennis team loses to Hillsborough

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team lost a regional match to Hillsborough Community College Friday afternoon at Titan Tennis Center.

A trio of Titans took their singles matches to a third-set tiebreaker with each losing in an 9-0 team loss.

Sophomore Valeria Arrevalo battle Hillsborough's Fabiola Candal-Ranalli at No 3 singles for close to four hours, winning the first set in a tiebreaker, but lost the second set 6-4, sending it to the third-set tiebreaker. Down early in the tiebreaker, Arrevalo battled back but eventually lost the tiebreaker 10-8.

Emma Othmer fought Renata Gonzalez for close to three and a half hours at No. 5 singles, winning the first set 6-3 before losing the second set 6-4 and forcing a third-set tiebreaker. Othmer fell behind 8-4 in the tiebreaker but battled back and had a couple of chances to win but ultimately fell 12-10.

Tsveti Trifonova rallied back at No. 2 singles, losing the first set 6-3 to Valentina Dancenco before bouncing back to take the second set 6-3 and forcing a tiebreaker.Dancenco prevailed 10-5 in the tiebreaker.

The Women's tennis team will be back in action Sunday against ASA Miami at Titan Tennis Center. The match begins at noon and admission is free as both the men and women's teams will be playing ASA Miami.
