Women's tennis team headed to Texas for national championship tournament

For the first time in program history, the Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team will be competing in the NJCAA Division I Women's Tennis National Championship Tournament in Waco, Texas.

The Titans are No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll after finishing second in the Florida College System Activities Association tournament a couple weeks ago.

Sophomore Yuliana Monroy leads the Titans, ranking third in the Oracle ITA Junior College singles rankings after winning the No. 1 singles title at the Region 8 Women's Tennis Tournament. Monroy was also named the Region 8 Player of the Year.

Monroy will be one of the top seeds in the national tournament, which begins Sunday at the Waco Regional Tennis and Fitness Center. The Medellin, Colombia native will team up with Sarah Manseri who come into the tournament ranked seventh in the latest doubles ranking.

Manseri, a sophomore from France, comes into the national tournament ranked No. 31 in singles while teammate Dugleisy Linarez is ranked 36th.

Linarez, a sophomore from Venezuela, teams up with freshman Shaeda Nickle in doubles and the team has had a solid season together, coming into the tournament No. 20 in the rankings.

Also competing in the national tournament are sophomore Jaime Duque and freshman Emma Othmer who play together in doubles.

The national tournament runs from Sunday until the championship scheduled for May 10.
