Big first day for women's tennis at ITA Regional Championship
The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team had a big first day in the ITA Regional Championships at Titan Tennis Center on Friday.
The Titans have four players in the quarterfinals in singles and the duo of Sarah Manseri and Dugleisy Linarez are in the semifinals in doubles after beating Hillsborough's Nicole Sherer and Lolita Kozina in the first round and then St. Petersburg's Anastasha Worlds and Monica Diaz to advance to the semifinals.
Day 2 of the tournament begins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday with singles competition and the semifinals of doubles will be in the afternoon.
Manseri and Linarez are both also in the quarterfinals in singles as Manseri defeated Hillsborough's Olga Donchu 6-4, 7-5 in the second round and will face former Titan Josephine Karcher who now plays for St. Petersburg in the quarterfinals.
Linarez beat Shaylee Syme in the second round 6-3, 6-1 and will face St. Petersburg's Satomi Momose in the quarterfinals.
Yuliana Monroy is also in the quarterfinals after defeating Laura Illanes-Rodriguez 6-2, 6-0 and will play Hillsborough's Hana Kvapilova in the quarterfinals.
Shaeda Nickle is also in the quarterfinals after defeating Manatee's Diarra Thomas in the first round 6-3, 6-2 and then had a bye in the second round. Nickle will face SCF-Manatee's Chelsea Samways in the quarterfinals.
Nickle and Jamie Duque teamed up to win their first-round doubles match but lost the second-round match to Hillsborough's Mullins and Kvapilova.
The finals are scheduled to be Sunday at Titan Tennis Center. Admission is free.
