Drebka, Hull, Gleich Share Women's Tennis Awards

Eastern Florida women's tennis head coach Jerry Thor has announced his team awards for the 2016 season.

Freshman Katharina Drebka won the Most Valuable Player award while classmate Giuliana Hull won the Titan Tough strength and conditioning award and sophomore Weronika Gleich captured the Most Improved award.

The Titans finished the spring with a 10-9 overall record in Thor's first season, their first winning mark in the program's three-year history.

They also finished 4-8 in Florida College System Activities Association Athletics NJCAA Region 8 play, setting a program record for victories and were fifth out of seven teams in the NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Tournament, the program's best finish.

They were ranked as high as 14th nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, another first. They finished the season ranked No. 15.

Drebka enters the national singles rankings as No. 13, the best spring ranking in program history, after joining the Titans in January.

In doubles Drebka and sophomore Nicole Trio were ranked No. 17 nationally in No. 1 doubles.

In ITA Region 4, which encompasses multiple states, Eastern Florida was ranked seventh as a team. Drebka was ranked No. 5, the highest regional ranking in school history. Hull was No. 23. In doubles Drebka and Trio were No. 8 and freshman Annaleigh Collings and Hull were ranked No. 13, marking the first time in school history the Titans have two doubles teams ranked in the region.

"It's good to see the players rewarded for their hard work and dedication to themselves and their teammates," Thor said. "Our program is young and we are eager to get to work to set the bar even higher both on and off the court.

"With finals week on the horizon the Titans look to finish strong and have a good showing with the ITA Academic awards as well."
