Titans complete Mississippi sweep with 8-1 win over No. 21 Hinds

Now that's how you perform on a road trip.

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team concluded its visit to Mississippi Saturday with an 8-1 victory over No. 21 Hinds Community College.

The win improved the No. 14 Titans' record to 10-6 overall, marking the first time the program has reached double-digit wins. EFSC won a combined seven matches in its first two seasons.

After the Titans swept all three doubles matches, Giulianna Hull, Annaleigh Collings, Nicole Trio, Ann-Kathrin Zilles and Ana Cristina Orozco all won their singles matches.

"It was a lot colder than what we're used to in Florida, but everyone stuck together, stayed focused, and pulled through with wins," Trio, the Titans sophomore captain, said.

Rain forced the match to start 30 minutes late, but once it got going, the Titans rolled to their second straight road win. EFSC beat previously unbeaten No. 16 Meridian Community College 7-2.

"We'll enjoy these wins and the players will have a couple of days to rest before we head to Tampa for two big rematches," Titans coach Jerry Thor said.

EFSC will play at St. Petersburg on Thursday, followed by a matchup at State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota on Friday.
