Titans win big in final home match

The final home match of the season turned out to be a big day for the sophomores on the Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team.

The Titans defeated NCAA Division II opponent Bentley University 8-1 at the new Titan Tennis Complex Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore Nicole Trio closed out her home career with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Bentley's Olivia von Oldenburg at No. 4 singles. She also combined with freshman Katharina Drebka to win at No. 1 doubles.

Playing at No. 1 singles, Drebka was able to overcome leg cramps to pull out a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ludmila Yamus.

Other singles winners for EFSC included Giulianna Hull, Annaleigh Collings and Ann-Kathrin Zilles.

The rest of the EFSC lineup got to play in exhibition matches to help close out Sophomore Day at the Titan Tennis Complex.

It was also the last home match for EFSC sophomores Alexandra Andrews, Weronica Gleich and Samantha Martin.

"It was wonderful to see this group of sophomores who watched this facility being built go out by dominating in their final match on these courts," Titans coach Jerry Thor said. "They have helped lay the foundation for this program and we will continue to work hard to become one of the nation's premier programs."

The Titans (8-6) will hit the road for a non-conference match against Meridian (Mississippi) Community College on Friday
