Titans Can’t Overcome Doubles Woes in 8-1 Loss to Broward

March 13, 2016 – Losing all three doubles matches made for a rough beginning for the Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team.

And it didn't get much better from there.

The Titans dropped their Florida College System Activities Association Athletics Region 8 match against No. 14 Broward College 8-1 on Sunday at the Titan Tennis Complex.

"We need to take pride in playing doubles well," EFSC coach Jerry Thor said. "It sets the tempo for the match and it's tough to recover from three losses to kick things off."

Freshman Ann-Kathrin Zilles was the only Titan to win a match Sunday, taking her No. 5 singles contest 6-2, 2-6, 10-5.

It was one of four matches that went to a third-set tiebreaker.

"When the team match has already been clinched, the remaining matches use tiebreakers instead of third sets," Thor said. "We have to do a better job of competing at every spot to give their teammates a chance to battle out full third sets."

EFSC is now 7-6 overall and 4-5 in conference play.

The Titans will host their final home match of the season Tuesday at 3 p.m. against Bentley University. Admission at the Titan Tennis Complex is free.
