Drebka’s strong play helps Titans top No 8 Hillsborough

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team scored another win over a top 10 team Saturday, defeating No. 8 Hillsborough Community College 7-2 in a Florida College System Activities Association Athletics Region 8 match at the Titan Tennis Complex.

Top singles player Katharina Drebka trailed 4-1 in the first set before rallying to win the next five games. Tied 4-4 in the second set, Drebka got a service break and then served it out to score a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Hillsborough's Noella Acuna.

"Loved seeing Kathi play so well," Titans coach Jerry Thor said. "So proud to be her coach and see her continue to see her perform at such a high level for us."

Also scoring singles victories for EFSC were Annaleigh Collings at No. 3, Nicole Trio at No. 4 and Ann-Kathrin Zilles at No. 5.

The No. 2 doubles team of Collings and Giulianna Hull was also victorious.

Hillsborough defaulted at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.

The Titans are now 7-5 overall and 4-4 in conference.

It was the second time EFSC has beaten Hillsborough this season. The Titans scored a 5-4 road win on Feb. 5.

"Just a wonderful (match) all around," Thor said. "Playing under the lights on a gorgeous Melbourne night, the women put on a great display of tennis, and we came away with another win over a top-ranked team."The Titans will play another conference match on Sunday against No. 14 Broward College. That match is set for 10 a.m. at the Titan Tennis Complex.

Admission is free.
