Titans Learn Valuable Lessons in 8-1 Loss to No. 1 ASA Miami

The Eastern Florida State College women's tennis team got a chance to test itself against No. 1-ranked ASA Miami on Sunday.

The next few months will reveal what the Titans learned from their 8-1 road loss to the two-time defending national champions in a Florida College System Activities Association Athletics Region 8 match.

"Going into the match, we obviously knew it was going to be a challenge," Titans coach Jerry Thor said. "But it was also an opportunity to put our skills to the test and assess where we can make improvements.

"Now, it's up to the women to turn this loss into a long-term win during our practice sessions."

Sophomore team captain Nicole Trio of Satellite High, scored the Titans only win at No. 5 singles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over ASA Miami's Christina Roller.

"I was proud to see our captain Nicole lead her team on the court as well," Thor said. "Her opponent gave her different looks throughout the match and she made adjustments to come away with the win."

Thor was also happy with the way EFSC No. 1 player Katharina Drebka and the No. 1 doubles team of Annaleigh Collings and Giulianna Hull played against the ASA's defending national singles and doubles champions.

Although she did not win her match, Thor was also pleased with the play of sophomore Weronica Gleich at No. 6 singes. Gleich is a Satellite High grad.

"She had to wait a long time but kept working hard, so to see her take the court for the Titans was a special moment for us," Thor said.

EFSC (1-1) returns to action on Feb. 5 when the Titans visit No. 8 Hillsborough in another Region 8 match.
