Women's Tennis on National Radar
Eastern Florida's women's tennis team and two players have earned national recognition.
Eastern Florida is ranked 20th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national rankings and sixth out of seven teams in Florida.
Eastern Florida's spring schedule includes seven regular- season matches against teams in the top 5 in the national rankings: ASA Miami, State College of Florida Manatee-Sarasota and St. Petersburg College, which are ranked first, fourth and fifth respectively.
Individually Eastern Florida sophomore Nicole Trio is 44th nationally in singles while Trio and freshman Naomi Villa are 19th nationally in doubles.
Statewide Trio is ranked 18th in singles, classmate Aly Andrews 24th and freshman Giulianna Hull 25th. Trio and Villa are ninth in doubles.
"Belonging to the toughest region in the country is an attractive position for serious competitors to be in," said Eastern Florida head coach Jerry Thor.
"The beautiful weather here provides our athletes the opportunity to continue their training, and I am eager to see if they work hard enough to close the gap with the elite teams in the state of Florida."
Eastern Florida opens its spring championship on Jan. 30 at Ave Maria University in Ave Maria, Florida. The Titans hold their home matches at the Titan Tennis Complex on the Melbourne Campus.
