Women's soccer team posts victory against Polk State College

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team picked up another win Wednesday night at Orlando Health Stadium.

The eighth-ranked Titans defeated Polk State College 1-0 in a Region 8 Conference game and is now 3-0 and can clinch the Region 8 Conference regular season title on Friday at Daytona State College. The regular season champion will get a bye into the Region 8 Conference Tournament final.

On Wednesday night, Eastern Florida State College's Laura Di Mascio scored the only goal of the game with just under six minutes remaining.

The sophomore from Paris, France took a pass from Sofia Posner and hit it over the goalkeepers reach and into the back of the net. It was Di Mascio's sixth goal of the season and it was a big one for the Titans.

Polk State College had the first big opportunity of the game with 28:27 left in the first half, but goalkeeper Lauren Pastor leaped up to tap it up in the air and then caught it. It remained scoreless at halftime and the Titans had a coupe of really good looks in the second half as Lena Borges just missed on a shot and then Nancy Almanza's went off the post with just under 22 minutes left.

 Pastor picked up her fifth shutout of the season.

Eastern Florida State College will wrap up the regular season Friday night one the road as the Titans travel to Daytona State College Friday night at 7 p.m. The game will decide the seedings for the Region 8 Tournament beginning Oct. 26 at Eastern Florida State College.
