Women's soccer team posts shutout in tournament opener

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team opened the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament with a win over Laramie County Community College.

The Titans defeated Laramie County CC 4-0 in Eastern Florida State College's Pool B opener Monday in Evans, Georgia.

"We played pretty well in the first half but weren't quite as sharp in the second half. I thought we played really well for having a couple of weeks off, I felt like we had a game plan and we executed that pretty well," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Scott Carswell said.

Laura Cetina got the Titans on the board with a penalty kick 29 minutes and 40 seconds into the first half. Cetina would make it 2-0 right before halftime as her header hit the post but she got the rebound and blasted it into the top of the net.

Up 2-0 at halftime, the Titans made it 3-0 15 minutes into the second half as Nancy Almanza found the back of the net.

Samira Roper would round out the scoring for the Titans less than 10 minutes later, scoring on a pass from Cali Stranz.

The loss eliminated Laramie County Community College and set up a Pool B final between the Titans and Hill College. The No. 2 seed defeated Laramie County CC 4-2 on Sunday as Christina Salmon scored twice in the win.

"They have three really good forwards who are fast, we just have to contain that speed that they have up top," Carswell said.

Tuesday's game will be at 12:30 p.m. in Evans, Georgia and fans can watch the game live online for $10 here.
