Women's soccer tops Daytona State in conference game

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team picked up a key Region 8 Conference win Saturday night on the road.

The Titans, who are No. 1 in the NJCAA Division I poll at 9-1 overall and 2-1 in the conference, defeated Daytona State College 1-0 to move into a tie with Polk State College.

Down a person due to a red card in the first half, the defending national champions battled to a scoreless tie with the Falcons in the first half.

With eight minutes remaining in regulation, Laura Cetina received a pass in the middle of the field, turned and hit a big shot past the keeper and into the top right of the net. It was the sophomore's 10th goal of the season and gave the Titans a big conference win.

The defense held Daytona State College in check for most of the night, recording the team's first shutout in six games.

Eastern Florida State College will host Daytona State College next Saturday at Orlando Health Stadium. The game will begin at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on WEFS-TV.
