No. 1 women's soccer team falls in overtime

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team lost for the first time this season, falling to No. 16 Polk State College 2-1 in overtime Wednesday afternoon.

The No. 1 ranked Titans fell to 8-1 overall and 1-1 in the Region 8 Conference and will travel to No. 18 Daytona State College Saturday night for a conference match.

Eastern Florida State College got on the board first as Kailey Dunne hit a free kick from outside the box that the goalie couldn't handle cleanly and crossed the line.

It would go to halftime with the Titans leading but Polk State would find the equalizer with 17 minutes remaining.

The Titans had a shot to win the game in the final minute when Laura Cetina was taken down in the box. Lena Stevens took the penalty kick but Polk State goalkeeper Sophia Nicholls made the diving stop to keep the game tied and ultimately send it to overtime.

In overtime Polk State would score the game winner less than three minutes into the first sudden death period to beat the Titans.

Eastern Florida State College will look to bounce back Saturday evening at 7 p.m. at Daytona State College.
