Women's soccer team tops Polk State in conference opener

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team rallied past No. 20 Polk State College Wednesday night to win their Region 8 Conference opener at Orlando Health Stadium.

The No. 1-ranked Titans improved to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the conference with the 3-2 victory.

Eastern Florida State College found themselves down a goal in the first haf as Polk State's Celine Ottah hit a great shot into the corner of the net with 26 minutes left in the first half.

The Titans defense and goalkeeper Gabriella Tobar kept it 1-0 with some big plays and with 14:13 left in the first half the Titans put together a nice passing combination in the box that led to Nancy Almanza finding the back of the net. It was Almanza's fourth goal of the season.

Polk State would once again take the lead as Raisa Lugo scored her 15th goal of the year to give the Eagles a 2-1 lead at halftime.

The Titans would tie the match up early in the second half as Kailey Dunne hit a long-range rocket past the goalkeeper to tie the game 2-2 just four minutes into the second half.

It would remain tied for much of the second half but with 7:08 remaining the Titans struck for the game winner.

Laura Cetina took a pass from Ana Alvarez and scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Eastern Florida State College will host Pasco-Hernando State College Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Orlando Health Stadium and admission is free. The game will be shown live on EFSC Titans YouTube page.
