No. 1 women's soccer team has big day Saturday

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team scored eight times Saturday afternoon to remain unbeaten with a non-conference win against Pasco-Hernando State College at Orlando Health Stadium.

The No. 1 ranked and defending national championship Titans are now 5-0 on the season after Saturday's 8-1 victory.

Eight different players scored in the win for Eastern Florida State College.

Pasco-Hernando got on the board first on a breakaway 12 minutes into the contest but from there it was all Titans.

With 18:14 remaining in the first half the Titans tied the game as Lea Monteiro hit Laura Cetina who redirected it to a breaking Ana Alvarez. Alvarez took a dribble and hit a bullet into the corner of the net.

Samira Roper made it 2-1 with just under 11 minutes remaining in the first half and then with just under three minutes remaining Isabelle Bernier made it 3-1. Forty seconds later a penalty was called in the box and Nancy Almanza scored the penalty kick to make it 4-1.

The second half saw the Titans pick right back up as another penalty in the box led to Lena Stevens getting on the board just under two minutes into the second half.

Laura Cetina scored her team-high sixth goal of the season seven minutes later to make it 6-1.

Alba Embid took a nice cross from Mia Lewis and scored with 25:36 remaining and Isla Brown wrapped up the scoring for the Titans.

Eastern Florida State College will play No. 7 Monroe College in a game at Daytona State College Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. The Titans will be back at Orlando Health Stadium on Oct. 1 against No. 15 Daytona State College at 7 p.m.
