Women's soccer team plays in national tournament Monday afternoon

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team will open the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament Monday afternoon at Daytona State College.

The Titans, who are the No. 3 seed in the tournament this season, will open Pool C Play at 2:30 p.m. against No. 10 seed Rose State College.

Eastern Florida State College comes into the contest on a hot streak, allowing just one goal in the past six games, outscoring opponents 18-1.

"It's exciting, it was our goal from the beginning of the season to get back into the national tournament and we are excited to play against some of the best teams in the nation," Eastern Florida State College goalkeeper Marcelle Thedinga said. "It helps that we have been there last year so we have an idea of what to expect this year, really just helps me to mentally and physically prepare for the best teams in the nation as we try to reach the finals."

Rose State College is an at-large team in the tournament after finishing the season with a 14-4-3. The Raider lost to No. 2 seed Seminole State (OK) in penalty kicks in the West Plains District Championship and is ranked No. 16 in the NJCAA Division I poll.

The national tournament begins at 9 a.m. with No. 1 Tyler Junior College facing No. 12 Motlow State. A tournament pass is $60 and covers every game all week, a daily ticket costs $20.
