Women's soccer team finishes regular season with win

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team defeated Daytona State College 2-1 to finish the conference regular season unbeaten for the third straight season.

The Titans, who are No. 4 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, scored twice in the first half and their veteran defensive unit made sure the team picked up the win on Sophomore Night at Orlando Health Stadium Saturday night.

The Titans wasted little time getting on the board as Alexia Spencer hit a nice corner kick to Kirsty Woodacre just under three minutes into the contest. The London, England native headed it into the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

The Titans would continue to put pressure on the Daytona State defense and with just under five minutes remaining in the first half, the Titans would score on another corner kick.

This time it was Lena Stevens who found Woodacre who headed it to the post, Paula Garrido put a nice overhead kick to the other post and Alexia Spencer finished it to make it 2-0.

The defensive unit, four of which were playing their final regular season game with the Titans, stymied the Falcons offense throughout the contest.

With 14:16 remaining in the contest, Daytona State's Isabella Da Silva was taken down just inside the box to earn a penalty kick.

Elena Diaz Trujillo took the penalty kick and put the Falcons on the board, cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Titans have earned the top seed in the Region VIII Conference Tournament which will be played at Orlando Health Stadium next weekend. Daytona State College will play Polk State College on Thursday night at 7 p.m. with the winner playing the Titans Saturday at 7 p.m. The winner of the Region VIII tournament winner will advance to the South Atlantic District Tournament Nov. 5-6.
