Women's soccer team locks up regular season title with win on the road

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team wrapped up the Region 8 Conference regular season title Wednesday night.

The Titans defeated Polk State College 2-0 on the road to win the regular season title.

The Titans came out aggressively and outshot Polk State College 6-1 in the first 30 minutes of the contest.

With 10 minutes and four seconds remaining in the first half Paula Garrido stepped up to the line for a penalty kick and buried it, giving the Titans a 1-0 lead. It was the fourth goal of the season for the sophomore from Asturias, Spain.

The game would head to halftime with the Titans leading 1-0.

Eastern Florida State College would make it 2-0 15 minutes into the second half as Lena Stevens scored her first goal of the season.

"We played really well tonight, kept the ball moving and created good opportunities," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Scott Carswell said. "The back four was just incredible tonight, we did not give them very many good looks at all."

The Titans will host Daytona State College in the final regular-season game of the season on Saturday at 7 p.m. The game will be at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus and will be broadcast locally on WEFS-TV on channel 9 on Spectrum, 68 on DirecTV and 30 on Dish.
