Women's soccer team shuts out Polk State College

The Eastern Florida State College women's soccer team shut out Polk State College in a Region VIII Conference match Wednesday night at Orlando Health Stadium on the Melbourne campus.

The Titans scored twice in the first 20 minutes of the contest and went on to post the 2-0 victory to improve to 2-0 in the conference.

Five minutes into the game, Laura Centina made a quick move to the middle of the field and hit a shot into the top of the net to give the Titans a 1-0 lead. It was the third goal of the season for the freshman.

With just under 25 minutes left in the first half Cetina took off and made a cross to Courtney Jade Butlion, who put it past the Polk State College goalkeeper to make it 2-0. It was also Butlion's third goal of the season.

Three minutes later it looked like Polk State may get on the board as Raisa Lugo made a break and hit a shot that Titans goalkeeper Marcelle Thedinga made the save to stop the attack.

The Titans had several good chances to add to the lead in the second but the Polk State College goalkeeper Thaynara Soares made a couple of nice saves.

Eastern Florida State College, who improved to 3-1-3 overall, will travel to Polk State College for a conference game on October 20 before hosting Daytona State College on Oct. 23.
