Morgan Miller, Fran Espinoza named to NJCAA All-American teams

Eastern Florida State College women's soccer player Morgan Miller became the second player in program history to be named an All-American twice on Thursday.

Miller, a sophomore from Melbourne, was named to the NJCAA Division I All-American First Team Thursday after helping the Titans to the semifinals of the NJCAA Division I National Championship Tournament for the season straight season.

"It is so awesome, I was home when coach (Jeff Carr) called to tell me and it is just so awesome. I immediately called my dad and was screaming," Miller said.

The midfielder led the team with 17 goals this season and assisted on four others for the 16-1 Titans. She was also named the Region 8 Player of the Year earlier in the season.

"Obviously it was a little disappointing not being in national championship game, but we had an amazing year and personally I did a lot better than last year, so I am really happy with how I played and how the team did this year."

Miller, who was named to the second team last year, joins Khadija "Bunny" Shaw as the only Titans to make the NJCAA All-American team as both freshmen and sophomores. Shaw was recently named one of the top 100 women's soccer players in the world by Guardian Magazine.

"It is a tremendous honor and achievement for Morgan to be named back-to-back All-American and it is nice that the NJCAA and the coaches recognize what an unbelievable season she has had for us, playing well both offensively and defensively for us and it couldn't happen to a better young lady," Eastern Florida State College women's soccer coach Jeff Carr said. "We are really excited for her and hopefully this opens some doors for her in finding her next college."

Teammate Francesca Espinoza was named to the NJCAA Division I Honorable Mention team after the freshman from Viera scored 11 goals and assisted on 11 other goals in her first season with the Titans. Espinoza was also named to the Region 8 first team earlier this season.

"Fran had a fantastic freshman season being Region 8 Freshman of the Year and now Honorable Mention All-American," Carr said. "She is a very exciting player to watch and we look forward to what she does next year."

Miller is the eighth Titans player to be named to the NJCAA Division I First Team.
